Tito Mouraz is a Portuguese photographer who was gaining skills in the Superior Art School of Oporto, Portugal, with a particular focus on photography and visual arts. His works has been widely appreciated and exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe.
Some of the most significant exhibitions have taken place at Módulo Gallery in Lisbon, Format International Photography Festival in United Kingdom, Blanca Berlin Gallery in Spain and Fotofestiwal Lodz in Poland, just to name a few. In his project Casa das Sete Senhoras, Tito unveils the myth associated with Beira-Alta, a province situated in the north of Portugal, where he was born and brought up.
The legend tells that, „There is a house that is said to be haunted by the ghosts of seven women, all maiden sisters. One of them is a witch. On nights of the full moon, the women, in their white gowns, would fly from their balcony over to the leafy branches of the chestnut across the street. From there they would seduce men who passed-by,” interpreted Tito.
Through moody black and white images of the enviroment, intertwined with the portraits of local people, Tito attemps to visualize the great impact the land with its sinister legend leaves on their lives. The final body of work is presented in a form of a book, which was published by Dewi Lewis Publishing.
